Industrial Visit @ Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) – May 2023

TIMSCDR students visited CETTM – Centre of Excellence in Telecom Technology and Management, MTNL on 18 May 2023. CETTM has been offering training in Telecom & Management for the last 18 years.  During the visit, students were familiarized with the latest telecom technologies. They were given a walkthrough in labs setup for Digital Telephone Exchanges, Transmission Technologies, Wireless Technologies and Broadband/FTTH (Fiber to the Home) while explaining functioning of all equipment.

Industrial Visit @ Mumbai Monorail – June 2022

Mr. Sandeep Singh, Manager MIS & IT at Mumbai Monorail, TIMSCDR Alumnus Batch 2008 conducted a Virtual Industrial Visit for all students of TIMSCDR on 28 June 2022. He gave students a virtual walk through of the Mumbai Monorail Depot and gave an overview of its operations. He also demonstrated the IT Infrastructure – switches, servers etc that enables the Mumbai Monorail Project.

Industrial Visit @ Tata Consultancy Services – Feb 2021

A Virtual Industrial Visit to Tata Consultancy Services Green Buildings Initiative – TCS Olympus Park, Mumbai and TCS Kalinga Park, Bhubaneswar was organized on 4 February 2021 for all students of TIMSCDR. Both these buildings are landmark examples of efficient utilization, management and conservation of energy, water and other resources as well as waste reduction measures.

The students were given a virtual walk through of their facilities such as their waste water recycle plant, central Bio-Gas plant for bio-degradable waste, air handling units that are fitted with automated fresh air intake dampers which automatically adjust the fresh air intake based on the CO2 levels inside the building and other considerations given to the environment in design, construction, and operations of the building.

Lt Cdr Arun Varghese (Retd), Technical Head for Olympus Building gave the virtual tour. 172 students attended the Virtual Industrial Visit.

Industrial Visit @ Infosys – March 2019

• TIMSCDR have arranged an Industrial Visit at Infosys on 14/03/2019 for Semester-IV students.
• The visit started with a brief introduction and overview of organization.
• Orientation programme begin with Artificial Intelligence and its benefits by industry professional.
• Online quiz taken by the experts on kahoot (online tool) to explore student’s knowledge based on AI topic covered during AI session.
• HR informed about new e-learning platform InfyTQ for students which provides free certification on latest technologies.
• Process for campus placement at Infosys briefed by HR.
• The students were taken for the tour of Infosys to see services provided by the Infosys.

Industrial Visit @ Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) – May 2018

• TIMSCDR have arranged an Industrial Visit to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) on 11^th April 2018 and 3^rd May 2018 for Semester-II students.
• The visit started with a brief introduction and overview of Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and the students got a chance to see India’s largest nuclear research reactor Dhruva. The students were given a demonstration of how the entire functioning of the reactor is automated and how IT plays a role in it. The students were also instructed about environment monitoring around nuclear reactors and radioactive waste management.
•  The students visited the laboratory of Nuclear Agriculture Facility in BARC. They were given an idea about how to use of radioactive materials helps in increasing in agriculture output, food preservation, and strengthened post-harvest technology.
• The students visited to the SUPERCOMPUTING facility, where they were introduced to ANUPAM -XENON/128-bit supercomputer which was developed by BARC in July, 2002.This supercomputer is being used for solving very large computational problems in the fields of Electronics Structures and Molecular Dynamics Simulations, Radiation Chemistry, Atmospheric Chemistry and Computational Fluid Dynamics.

• TIMSCDR have arranged an Industrial Visit to Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) on 12^th April and 13^th April 2018 for Semester-IVstudents.
• The visit started with a brief introduction and overview of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL).
• Students visited the following three sites which form the main part of any telephone exchange:
• Antenna site.
• Base Trans receiver station (BTS)
• Base Station Controller (BSC)
• At the BSC (Base Station Subsystem) centre the equipment’s were manufactured by Motorola. The GSM mobile station (or mobile phone) communicates with other parts of the system through the base station system. The base transceiver station (BTS) handles the radio interface to the mobile station. The base transceiver station is the radio equipment (transceivers and antennas).
  The students got the opportunity to practically observe the alarm conditions of BSC when the trainer disengaged the cooling system that resulted in a warning.
• Students were taken up to the terrace to have a breathtaking view of the city and observe the various antennas used at MTNL. The Antennas were mounted on the top of the MTNL building. A metal rod or dish was used to transmit as well as receive signal.
  At the Main Switching Centre, the switching mechanism and design of antennas were explained. These switching equipments are monitored by a server which takes care of all the modulation and demodulation operation. The switching equipments were of ‘Siemens’ and ‘Himachal Electronics Ltd.’
  The Industrial Visit to MTNL definitely improved the students’ understanding of Mobile Communications systems and widened their scope of thinking.

Industrial Visit @ Mahindra Finance March 2017

Industrial Visits provide an excellent opportunity for students to interact with the Industry and know about Industrial Environment and it helps in combining the academic knowledge with practical experience. This is generally arranged with an objective of giving the students functional exposure in different Industrial sectors.

Objective

• To provide vital information about the Industry and various functioning process of the Industry.
• To develop and enhance professional awareness and communication skills.
• To acquaint students with interesting facts and emerging technologies.
• To provide an insight into the real working environment of the Industry.
• To increase practical awareness of various Industrial sectors.

  Industrial Visit at Mahindra Finance

  1. TIMSCDR arranged an Industrial Visit to Mahindra Finance on 25 March 2017 and 1 April 2017 for Semester-II (Batch 2019) students.
  2. The visit started with a brief introduction and overview of Mahindra Finance to the students highlighting the advantages of network security issues, network security architecture, innovations and software project management and software used by the Industry.
  3. The students were taken for the tour of office to see services provided by the Industry.

Industrial Visit @ Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) -October-2016

TIMSCDR’s continuous focus on research activities and placement of students in the right organization with right position is the main motivator to expose the students to multiple arenas and keep them abreast with latest innovations in the industry. On 5-6 October, 2016 TIMSCDR organized yet another Industrial Visit to Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC) for third semester students.

Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Trombay is a multidisciplinary organization with world class facilities and a national laboratory with the prime motive to support the nuclear program in the country. Here the students got a chance to see India’s largest nuclear research reactor Dhruva. The students were given a demonstration of how the entire functioning of the reactor is automated and how IT plays a role in it. The students were also instructed about environment monitoring around nuclear reactors and radioactive waste management.

But what excited the students most was the visit to the SUPERCOMPUTING facility, where they were introduced to ANUPAM -XENON/128 bit supercomputer which was developed by BARC in July, 2002.This supercomputer is being used for solving very large computational problems in the fields of Electronics Structures and Molecular Dynamics Simulations, Radiation Chemistry, Atmospheric Chemistry and Computational Fluid Dynamics. The students were awestruck by the mammoth supercomputer and its incredible operations.

The visit definitely taught students what they would have never gained from their traditional academic curriculum.

Industrial Visit @ Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd. (MTNL) -October-2016

Industrial visit was organized for the fifth Semester students on 19th October, 2016. The venue was MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd.) – India’s most reputed telecom company located at Powai, Mumbai. The goal of the industrial visit was to achieve better understanding and practical exposure to Mobile Communications Systems.

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is a state-owned telecommunications service provider in the metro cities of Mumbai and New Delhi in India.

Students visited the following three sites which form the main part of any telephone exchange:

1. Antenna site.

.Industrial Visit @ Voltas, Silvasa -October-2015

This year TIMSCDR arranged for an Industrial Visit to Voltas, Silvassa on Thursday, 1st October, 2015 for First semester students. The purpose of the visit was to strengthening the knowledge of students in the field of Computer-integrated manufacturing. On behalf of Company Mr. Sanjay Patil (Production Head) and other personnel from Voltas explained us the various processes in the plant and showed how the Ductable ACs, Tower type ACs are manufactured using CNC machine. The microprocessor Controller ensures equal running of compressors in multiple compressor units. This ensures a longer life for compressors.

We visited the two units of Voltas and got to see the Trade and Manufacture of air conditioners, deep freezers, chest coolers visi cooler, water coolers, export, and water dispensers.

Students learned the working and manufacturing of CNC Milling,CNC Lathe machine,CNC Turning Center etc. These machines are designed in the State of Art in-house Computerized Design Department equipped with the latest Designing Softwares.

Industrial Visit @ Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) -March-2015

Industrial Visits provide an excellent opportunity to students to interact with the Industry and know about Industrial Environment and it helps in combining the academic knowledge with practical experience. This is generally arranged with an objective of giving the students functional exposure in different Industrial sectors.

This year TIMSCDR arranged for an Industrial Visit to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) on Monday, 27th  March, 2015 for Second semester students.

Altogether 53 students and 7 faculty members were part of this visit to BARC.

BARC is a premier multi-disciplinary Nuclear Research Centre of India having excellent infrastructure for advanced Research and Development with expertise covering the entire spectrum of Nuclear Science, Engineering and related areas.

The visit started with a brief introduction and overview of BARC to the students highlighting the advantages of nuclear energy and its potential applications in biomedical research, food security, material sciences, nanotechnology, waste management, energy security, crime detection, use of radioisotopes, brachytherapy, teletherapy.The students were then taken for the tour to different facilities.

SUPERCOMPUTING Facility: (BARC) here has developed a very high speed ANUPAM -XENON/128 bit supercomputer, achieving another significant milestone in the field of supercomputers. The computing speed of this 128 processor ANUPAM supercomputer is 202 Giga Floating Point Operations per Second (GFLOPS) on High Performance LINPAC benchmark program and is about three times faster than the 64 -node supercomputer developed in July 2002.The BARC supercomputers are being used for solving very large computational problems in the fields of Condensed Matter Physics Simulations, Electronics Structures and Molecular Dynamics Simulations, Radiation Chemistry, Atmospheric Chemistry, Finite Element Analysis of non-linear problems, Computational Fluid Dynamics.

NUCLEAR REACTOR Facility: It contains Dhruva reactor, India’s largest nuclear research reactor .It is India’s primary generator of weapons-grade plutonium-bearing spent fuel for its nuclear weapons program. Originally named the R-5. It is designed as a larger version of the CIRUS reactor, Dhruva was an indigenous project built to provide an independent source of weapons -grade plutonium free from safeguards. The Dhruva project cost 950 million rupees. The reactor uses heavy water (deuterium) as a moderator and coolant. Aluminum clad fuel rods containing natural uranium are used to obtain a maximum power output of 100MW. According to conservative estimates, the reactor produces an average of 16 –26 kg of weapons -grade plutonium per year in its spent fuel.

MOLECULAR BIOLOGY Facility:  The lab is equipped with modern scientific equipments like Microarray Instrument. A microarray is a multiplex lab-on-a- chip. It is a 2D array on a solid substrate (usually a glass slide or silicon thin –film cell that assays large amounts of biological material using high – throughput screening methods. Also, the students got an opportunity to visit electron microscopy lab, where they learnt the functioning of Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) which provides highly magnified view of micro -and nanostructures. The high resolution imaging mode of the instrument helps in predicting the atomic arrangements in a sample.

Robotics and AGV Facility: An Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) based material transfer system has been developed, for automated transfer of materials between supply station, machining, and assembly units of a typical manufacturing setup. The same concept can also be used for automated transfer of radioactive materials from one point to another of a nuclear establishment (e.g., NFC, BRIT). Automated loading and unloading operations are performed by programmed motion of powered roller conveyors onboard the AGV, and on corresponding stationary units.

The visit was absolutely an incredible experience.

Industrial Visit @ Bombay Stock Exchage (BSE)Oct-2014

Industrial Visits provide an excellent opportunity to students to interact with the Industry and know about Industrial Environment and it helps in combining the academic knowledge with practical experience. This is generally arranged with an objective of giving the students functional exposure in different Industrial sectors.

This year TIMSCDR arranged for an Industrial Visit to Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Monday, 21st October, 2014 for third semester students.

Mr. Aranha Roy, Senior Manager of BSE gave insights about the financial market of India, trading done by broking companies and about BSE.During the visit, excellent information was conveyed about how to invest in finance market and what are the benefits to an investor. Also, the latest developments in the finance industry were taken up for discussion. The role & the importance of BSE was explained to the students. Also, its impact on the economy and the impact of the same on the market prices of the companies listed on the BSE were highlighted. Also, actual visit to the trading ring of BSE and to learn how the broking used to be done in 80’s was also an eye opener. Overall, a wonderful learning experience for all of us.

After this visit we along with the students have a got a working knowledge of Capital market, different financial instruments and also a fair amount of knowledge about different Investment avenues.
