Synapse

TIMSCDR organizes the event SYNAPSE every year. The event is designed to innovate and create unique IT product. Synapse encourages students to think ‘out-of-box’.

Synapse is the event which will enhance some of the important skills of the students like Creativity, Marketing skills, Team work, Cost effectiveness, Negotiation skills and how they convert their theoretical knowledge to Practical approach.

The students are divided into different groups and each group has to decide a product related to IT with a distinct application. Each group is allotted a seed money to initiate the project. SYNAPSE consists of two stages- Curtain Raiser and Final Presentation. Groups are ranked on parameters like uniqueness, originality, feasibility, finance management, promotional tactics which include printing advertisements and TV advertisements.

Synapse 2023

SYNAPSE – The Opportunity for the students to showcase their innovative ideas and technical projects to industry experts. This year Synapse was featured with the theme “Using Information Technology for Women Empowerment”.

SYNAPSE Curtain Raiser was organized on May 24, 2023 with 16 innovative project ideas from first year students.

The Final Presentation took place on October 12, 2023.The Tenth volume of SYNAPSE – Innovation Magazine was released at the hands of the event judges Dr. Suresh A Shan- Creative innovator, Mr. Harsha Udupi – Senior Business Program, Engagement, Innovation and People Leader, Mr. Sanjiv Viswanathan – Associate Director Global Analyst & Industry relations at Virtusa Corporation, Mr. A Siju Rawther – Head Information Technology at SBI Mutual Fund, Mr. Mayank Parekh – Managing Director at Everex Infotech, Mr. Sachit Kumar – VP at Home Ville Group, Co-Founder ambulance. Run, Mr. Om Narayan Shukla – Team Leader at home Ville group.

Synapse 2022

SYNAPSE- The junction between two neurons – Technology and Innovations was themed ‘Turning digital technology innovation into climate action-Carbon Neutrality (UN Goal 13 -Climate Action)”.

SYNAPSE-2022 curtain raiser was organized on June 4, 2022 where all 189 students from 1st year came up with 19 innovative project ideas on given theme. There were 4 doctorate faculty members who played the role of judge and filtered 12 best novel projects for final synapse event.

The Final Presentation was on 11th October, 2022 where students presented their ideas online to a panel of judges from industry who evaluated the teams based on the criteria like Innovation, Creativity, Technical and Socio Economical Feasibility, Marketing Skills & Team Work.

The Ninth volume of SYNAPSE – Innovation Magazine was released at the hands of the event judges like Dr.Suresh A Shan, working in Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited , Mr. Nikil Gurjar, President in ThyssenKrupp AG since 2007, Mr. Siddharth Sheth Senior Vice President at CitiusTech , Ms. Mugdha Desai founder of  TECHVED Consulting.

Synapse 2021- Final event

SYNAPSE- The junction between two neurons – Technology and Innovations was themed ‘Leveraging digital solutions to manage the COVID-19 crisis”. Synapse 2021 final event was handled online because of COVID 19 pandemic situation.

SYNAPSE-2021 curtain raiser was organized on July 10, 2021 where 48 students from 1st year came up with 23 innovative project ideas on given theme. There were 6 senior faculty members who became judge and filtered 8 best novel projects for final synapse event.

The Final Presentation was on 4th September, 2021 where students presented their ideas online to a panel of judges from industry who evaluated the teams based on the criteria like Innovation, Creativity, Technical and Socio Economical Feasibility, Marketing Skills & Team Work. The innovative projects were also evaluated by them.

The Eighth volume of SYNAPSE – Innovation Magazine was released at the hands of the event judges like Dr.Suresh A Shan, working in Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited , Mr. Dinesh Singh, working in TCS from last 22 years, Mr. Ashish Garde , Founder & Director – Marathwada Accelerator For Growth & Incubation Council (MAGIC) Aurangabad, Mr. Tejwant Navalka who worked as Director in Technology at Symtotal Software Pvt Ltd. The innovative projects were also evaluated by them.

Synapse 2020
SYNAPSE- The junction between two neurons – Technology and Innovations was themed ‘Leveraging Information Technology for sustainability in Agriculture and Medicine in COVID 19 crises. This time all the groups have focused on UN sustainable development goal and each picked up one goal for project. Synapse 2020 even was handled online because of COVID 19 pandemic situation.

SYNAPSE-2020 curtain raiser was organized on August 18, 2020 where the students from 2nd year came up with innovative ideas on given theme. The Final Presentation was on 30th January, 2021 where students presented their ideas online to a panel of judges from industry who evaluated the teams based on the criteria like Innovation, Creativity, Technical and Socio Economical Feasibility, Marketing Skills & Team Work.

The Seventh volume of SYNAPSE – Innovation Magazine was released at the hands of the event judges Dr. Rajendra Deshpande, IT industry veteran and the longest serving CIO in BPO sector and Mr. Dinesh Singh, group leader in TCS Research and Innovations. The innovative projects were also evaluated by them.

The winning team for SYNAPSE – 2020 was “Social Distancing-ID Card- UN goal 3 (Good health and wellbeing), the first runner-up team was “Laser Field Protector – UN-09 Innovation & Infrastructure” and the second runner-up team was “SALINE MONITORING SYSTEM – UN-3 (Good Health and Well-Being)”.

Synapse 2019

SYNAPSE- The junction between two neurons – Technology and Innovations was themed 'Sustainability’. This time all the groups have focused on UN sustainable development goal and each picked up one goal for project.

SYNAPSE-2019 curtain raiser was organized on August 31, 2019 where the students from 1st and 2nd year came up with innovative ideas on sustainability. The Final Presentation was on September 21, 2019 where students presented their ideas to a panel of judges from industry who evaluated the teams based on the criteria like Innovation, Creativity, Technical and Socio Economical Feasibility, Marketing Skills & Team Work.

The Sixth volume of SYNAPSE – Innovation Magazine was released at the hands of the event judges Mr. Akshay Shah, Founder CEO, iWeb Technology Solutions Pvt Ltd, Mr. Amit Shah. Director at XS CAD India Pvt Ltd & Hypercept Technologies(I) Pvt Ltd., Dr. Suresh Shan, CTO at Mahindra and Mahindra Financial Services Ltd., Mr. Dinesh Singh, group leader in TCS Research and Innovations, Mr. Amit Samant,, Sr. Solution Architect and Dr. Vivek Bhartiya, Adjunct professor in TCET and TIMSCDR, Mumbai. The innovative projects were also evaluated by them.

The winning team for SYNAPSE – 2019 was “Pesticide Free India- UN goal 3 (Good health and wellbeing) and the runner-up team was “P&P Education – UN goal 4 (Quality Education)”.

Synapse 2018

SYNAPSE- The junction between two neurons – Technology and Marketing was themed 'Use of IT in Waste Management'.

SYNAPSE-2018 curtain raiser was organized on August 10, 2018 where the students from 1st and 2nd year came up with innovative ideas in Waste Management. The Final Presentation was on September 1, 2018 where students presented their ideas to a panel of judges from industry who evaluated the teams based on the criteria like Innovation, Creativity, Technical and Socio Economical Feasibility, Marketing Skills & Team Work.

The Fifth volume of SYNAPSE – Innovation Magazine was released at the hands of the event judges Mr. Vaibhav Rane, Director, protiviti, along with our Alumni – Mr. Viral Sanghavi, Associate Manager, Nomura and Mr. Rakesh Yadav, Lead Developer, Nomura. The innovative projects were also evaluated by Dr. Richa Singh, Consultant, Samhita Social Ventures, and our Alumni Mr. Apurb Sinha, SVP – Head CRM & Analytics (Asia Pacific) and Ms. Sheetal Sharma, Associate Consultant, TCS.

The winning team for SYNAPSE – 2018 was “Avkar Prabandh” and the runner-up team was “Pirates of the Waste”.

Synapse 2017

SYNAPSE- The junction between two neurons – Technology and Marketing.

Curtain Raiser of SYNAPSE-2017 was organized on 18 August 2017 in which ten groups came up with their innovative ideas and gave a brief presentation. The Final Presentation was on 8 September 2017 where students presented their ideas to a panel of judges from industry who evaluated the teams based on the criteria like Innovation, Creativity, Technical and Socio Economical Feasibility, Marketing Skills & Team Work. The Third and Fourth volume of SYNAPSE – Innovation Magazine which portray innovative ideas of synapse 2016 and 2017 respectively was released on 8th Sept. 2017.

“The winning team for SYNAPSE – 2017 was “Panch-Tantra” and the runner-up team was “Pashu-Mandi.

Synapse 2016

SYNAPSE- The junction between two neurons – Technology and Marketing.

Curtain Raiser of SYNAPSE-2016 was organized on 16/07/16 in which 16 groups came up with their innovative ideas and gave a brief presentation. The Final Presentation was on 06/08/16 where students presented their ideas to a panel of judges from Industry who evaluated the teams based on the criteria like Innovation, Creativity, Technical and Socio Economical Feasibility, Marketing Skills & Team Work. The second volume of SYNAPSE – Innovation Magazine with portray innovative ideas of synapse 2016 was released on 06/08/2016.

The Chief Guest for SYNAPSE-2016 was Mr. Anjani Prasad, Managing Director ARCHROMA INDIA. The other judges were Mr. Bharat Mandot, Managing Director, Stelcore Mgmt. Services Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Sudhanshu Ojha, GM, D-Link Academy, Mr. Trilok Randhawa , Chief Information Officer, ZOC Technologies and Mr. S. Sadasivam , Sr. Faculty SFIT Borivali, KCCoE Thane and PIIT Panvel.

“The winning team for SYNAPSE – 2016 was “SECURA” and the runner-up team was “ALERTOMETER”.

Synapse 2015

SYNAPSE- The junction between two neurons – Technology and Marketing.

Curtain Raiser was organized on 31/07/15 in which 23 groups came up with their innovative ideas and gave a brief presentation on it. The Final Presentation was on 14/08/14 where students had presented their ideas to a panel of judges from Industry who evaluated the teams on the scale of technology, research, and socio economical feasibility.

The judges for SYNAPSE-2015 were Mr. Prakash Kolhe, Director Virtusa, Mr. Abdul Khalid, Dy.General Manager – EAATS (Enterprise Application Architecture Technology Solutions [EAATS], MMFSL (Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Limited), Dr. Kamal Shah, Dean Research and Development, TCET. The event was also graced by Dr. Vinita Gaikwad, I/C Director TIMSCDR.

Synapse-2015 witnessed the great innovative ideas presented by teams built by students who have shown their technical creativity, marketing skills and winning spirit.

“The winning team – “DEKH BHAI DEKH” was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs. 1500 and certificates. The first runner-up – “ACOLYTE” was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs. 1000 and certificates.”

Synapse 2014

SYNAPSE-2014 consists of two stages- Curtain Raiser and Final Presentation.

Curtain Raiser was organized on 25 /07/14 in which the groups came up with their innovative ideas and gave a brief presentation on it. The Final Presentation was on 2/08/14 where students had presented their ideas to a panel of judges from Industry explicating their concept and the strategy which will be adopted in its implementation.

The judges for SYNAPSE-2014 were Mr. Subhash Palkar, Chief Patron at Centre of Recognition and Excellence for CIO CHOICE 2013, Mr. Suresh Shan, Head-BITS (Business Information Technology Solutions) at Mahindra and Mahindra Financial Services Ltd. and Mr. Yogesh Mantri, Customer Leader at TCS. The event was also graced by Prof. Suresh Chandra Gupta, Vice Chairman, CSI- Mumbai Chapter and Mr. Abraham Koshi, Head CSI-Mumbai Chapter.

Synapse-2014 provided an important platform for students to get a first hand experience of working in a highly competitive team-effort driven environment. It also helped students to focus on generating innovative product idea and developing the same using their marketing skills, cost effectiveness and negotiation skills.
“The winning team – “R-Track” was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs. 1500 and the first runner-up – “Aam Student” was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs. 1000.”

Synapse 2012

Synapse 2012 was organized on 1st September 2012. Initially there were sixteen teams, but after curtain raiser only ten teams participated in the final round. The winning team – “Friendicator” was rewarded with a cash prize of  Rs. 1500 and the first runner-up – “Handy Tickets” was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs. 1000.

Friendicator – It is a mobile application to order the meal without standing in a queue and also helps as a virtual map.

Handy Ticket– Handy Ticket is a mobile application to purchase local train tickets with just few clicks.

Mr. Kamlesh Dubey was one of the industrial experts who were on the judging panel to provide with valuable judgment on the projects.

Synapse 2011

Synapse 2011 was organised on 6th August 2011. Initially there were seventeen teams, but after curtain raiser only ten teams participated in the final round. The winning team – “Electrical Consumption Planner (ECP)” was rewarded with a cash prize of  Rs. 1500 and the first runner-up – “Vanap” was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs. 1000.

ECP – ECP is a mobile application which can tell the consumer that which electrical device is consuming how much electricity at home.

Vanap – Vanap is a device that can be installed in forests on trees and it can inform the police about the location of the theft of trees occurring in the forest.

Mr. Vishwajeet Sukhija and Mr. Sumit Bhardwaj were some of the industrial experts who were on the judging panel to provide with valuable judgement on the projects.

Synapse 2010

On 24th of July 2010, there was a curtain raiser event in which each of the groups were expected to give a brief introduction of their respective product. Product name, feasibility of the product and planned Gantt chart were the topics to be covered. A panel of internal teaching staff judged this event; some of the groups were unfortunately disqualified because their products were found to be existing. For these disqualified groups there was another curtain raising event on 31st of July.

Two weeks later ,the final presentation was scheduled. This presentation included detailed explanation of the product, cost analysis, applicability of the product, distinct features of the product, public review, price of the product, target customer segment, comparison of planned Gantt chart and actual Gantt chart and linear responsibility matrix. Marks were also allotted on TV ad, print ad, tag line, jingle, mascot and brand ambassador. Students were required to select the brand ambassador for their product from among the teaching and non- teaching staff of TIMSCDR .

Mr. Vishwajeet Sukhija, Mr. Vikrant Pawar and Mr. Udit Sood were some of the industrial experts who were on the judging panel to provide with valuable judgement on the projects.

The winning team — DAS AUGE was rewarded with a cash prize of  Rs. 1500 and the first runner-up — SPY PHONE was rewarded with a cash prize of Rs. 1000. DAS AUGE is a device which can be fixed in vehicles that would count the level of carbon monooxide and carbob-di-oxide from the gas emitted by vehicles. Its basic aim was to reduce pollution without manual monitoring. It keeps pollution under check by doing real time pollution test.  SPY PHONE is a mobile phone with small radiation detectors that are sensitive enough to detect explosives. It would help on routine detection of explosives.

The tips and suggestions given by judges encouraged the students to perform even better in synapse 2011.
